PROJECT OVERVIEW
Alliance Pipeline Inc. and Questar Overthrust Pipeline Company are jointly proposing a natural gas pipeline connecting the U.S. Rocky Mountain Region to the Chicago market hub. The proposed Rockies Alliance Pipeline -- or RAP -- is being developed in response to rapidly increasing supply from the U.S. Rockies region. RAP will enable producers, marketers and end-users to connect new gas supplies in the Greater Green River, Piceance, Uinta and Powder River basins with one of the largest and fastest growing markets in North America. The RAP project will take advantage of existing infrastructure with both Overthrust and Alliance to provide seamless and competitive transportation to key market areas.
In an initial open season, the project received strong market interest of nearly 500,000 dekatherms a day. A follow-up open season is currently being evaluated to meet the requests from producers who indicated the need for a more direct route to Chicago.
The pipeline will originate from Wamsutter, Wyo., where Questar Overthrust Pipeline will be expanded from the Opal and Meeker receipt hubs to meet the need for additional capacity. During an open season, Questar Overthrust Pipeline received interest for about 1 billion cubic feet a day (Bcf/d) of new pipeline capacity for delivery into Rockies Alliance Pipeline.
Upon in-service of the proposed project, RAP will initially provide 1.3 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of transportation capacity which is expandable to1.7 Bcf/d with the addition of compression. Providing sufficient commercial support for the project is obtained in 2008, the pipeline is expected to be in service November 1, 2012.
